What is emotional abuse?

Emotional abuse may be occuring if your partner is engaging in any of the following activities for the express purpose of controling or demeaning you. He or she may be:
  • Irresponsibility with money
  • Intensely jealous
  • Isolating you from family or friends
  • Insulting your family or friends
  • Manipulating you with lies
  • Threatening to divorce
  • Having affairs
  • Constantly questioning your activities
  • Not working
  • Keeping you from working
  • Threatening to take custody of children
  • Threatening suicide or to harm themselves
  • Checking up on your
  • Pawning your possessions without consent
  • Use of alcohol and/or drugs
